Mode of Action of Bacillus thuringiensis
Bacillus thuringiensis produces the Crystal (Cry) and Cytolytic (Cyt) protein families are a diverse group of proteins with activity against insects of different orders-Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera and also against other invertebrates such as nematodes. Their primary action is to lyse midgut epithelial cells by inserting into the target membrane and forming pores.
Benefits of Bacillus thuringiensis
- Reduced reliance on chemical insecticides, made Bt protected crops an obvious choice for product development highly effective pest control.
- It is highly specific and does not show any adverse effects on humans and animals.
- supplemental pest control by preserving or enhancing populations of beneficial organisms.
- Helps in increasing the yield of the crops without any infestation.
